How to make an aerator for 1 acre pond?

Question by Ed J: How to make an aerator for 1 acre pond?
I have a 1 acre pond and want to aerate it. I don’t want to spend a lot of money and was looking to make the aerator, either fountain or bubbler, instead of buying one. I am looking for detailed instructions.
I’d be willing to pick up a sump pump or a pool pump to make this work. The unit does have to be large enough to work on my pond and, from what I’ve been reading a 1/2 to 3/4hp should work. I don’t want to kill my electric bill in the process.

GO BUY A JET PUMP END A BUNCH OF HOSE,SCREEN FILTER AND A BUT LOAD OF SMALL PARTS THE REST IS SELF EXPLANITORY. OR I CAN SET YOU UP WITH A FOUNTAIN FOR A COUPLE GRAND.

What do you have to work with? You could use an old swimming pool pump. let me/us know what you have so we can come up with some McGuyver stuff.

Once you sink your pump into the water to spray water into the air, you will find a couple problems, the pump will clog.
To make a filter system to keep lake debris out of the pump, take an old plastic milk crate, weight it with a brick, or block, wrap the pump in fliter matting, stuff the crate with more fliter matting and sink it .
When the pump clogs or the filter needs cleaning, you;ll have to remove it to clean the filter and reset the pump. make the pump accessible.
You can use plumbing PVC piping to create intake and output tubing and create a current pulling water from one side or area to another but remember to filter any intake end to keep debris away from your pump.
A great way to aerate the pond is to create a waterfall which can put your pump nearer the edge or you can pump from deep er and send the water instead of into the air, up a false wall of brick to spill back into the water.

drill holes in pvc pipe cap one end, hook other end to compressor/pump,lay pipe in water.you can add a y or t fitting that will allow you to have a pipe on both side of your pond.
